Ciao,
Now I don't know if I have mentioned this before but I am a serial concert goer. I think it's a serious addiction, I need to go to some sort of Concert Addict Anonymous. I am lucky enough to have a Dad who has passed on his very varied taste in music to me and I am willing to listen to anything at least once! Again thanks to my amazing parents I normally get quite a few tickets to concerts for my birthday and Christmas. This year for Christmas I got tickets to see Viva Forever, Plan B, Emeli Sande and The Script - talk about spoilt. Plus before Christmas I bought myself a ticket to see Example and Pink...this has culminated in 6 gigs in 4 months. Busy busy bee.
So on 9th February I went to see Plan B with my brother and before I tell you about the main gig, I'm going to tell you about the only disappointing thing about the gig. Before the gig I was on Twitter and I saw a tweet from Rudimental about their tour supporting Plan B, I was so excited as I LOVE the stuff I've heard by them so far. Now I haven't listened to their stuff extensively as I am always revising albums for the gigs I have tickets for (I take my gig going very seriously) but I was very excited to watch them live. Sadly I was then very disappointed as me and my brother missed their set :'(
However, this was more than made up for by Plan B's amazing set! If you haven't ever listened to him than I will give you a little bit of background info. His second album 'The Defamation of Strickland Banks' is a great blend of rapping and soul singing which tells the story of Strickland Banks and his jail stint. It's a very good album which has many songs that I really love. Plan B has also just released a film which he directed called 'Ill Manors' which is all about London, council estates and gangs - very relevant to today's society. His third album is eponymous and is the music from the film and is much heavier on the rap side of things. The set was split into half; one for each of the albums, which I thought was a good idea as the two albums are quite different. It's hard to explain the feeling of crowds at massive gigs unless you've ever been in one but this gig experience was definitely enhanced for me by being in a standing section instead of the seated area, maybe it created a mob like atmosphere that matched the music...who knows. As well as Plan B's amazing style and presence, there was also appearances from Kano and a guy called Faith SFX who does the most insane beat-boxing I have ever heard! If you wanna see what I'm talking about watch the link below!
All in all I really enjoyed this gig and got so into it I was jumping around like a crazy woman, which if you know my story about breaking my foot at a Tinie Tempah gig two years ago, you will know this is a dangerous move for me! Plan B delivered an amazing set list and great performance and I would love to go and watch him again!
Ciao for now...
